Great news! On 3/26/12, In a vote of 6-3, the Common Council voted to add sexual orientation and gender identity to South Bend's human rights ordinance!

We would like to thank Tim Scott, Valerie Schey, Dr. Fred Ferlic, Oliver Davis, Gavin Ferlic and Karen White, each courageous to cast their vote against discrimination.

Special recognition should go to Charlotte Pfeiffer and the late Roland Kelly, our original heroes in the fight against discrimination.

We would also like to thank Lonnie Douglas and the members of the Human Rights Commission.

Finally, thank you to members of South Bend Equality, past and present, for all of their hard work and to the many community members that came together to support this effort. It took all of us to achieve this.

This ordinance, as amended, makes South Bend a community that recognizes and appreciates equality for all.
